Most Wanted: Books of May 2013

Hey y'all. For those who are new to Zach's YA Reviews, Most Wanted is a monthly feature on my blog where I show of four books that I want most and haven't yet received for the highlighted month and the reasons why it's on this list, I also usually end with my wrap up video for the previous month. Though it's not an official meme, feel free to make your own Most Wanted Post and link it in the comments.

1. Icons

Release Date: May 7, 2013
Author: Margaret Stohl
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Length: 448 pages

Your heart beats only with their permission.

Everything changed on The Day. The day the windows shattered. The day the power stopped. The day Dol's family dropped dead. The day Earth lost a war it didn't know it was fighting.

Since then, Dol has lived a simple life in the countryside -- safe from the shadow of the Icon and its terrifying power. Hiding from the one truth she can't avoid.

She's different. She survived. Why?

When Dol and her best friend, Ro, are captured and taken to the Embassy, off the coast of the sprawling metropolis once known as the City of Angels, they find only more questions. While Ro and fellow hostage Tima rage against their captors, Dol finds herself drawn to Lucas, the Ambassador's privileged son. But the four teens are more alike than they might think, and the timing of their meeting isn't a coincidence. It's a conspiracy.

Within the Icon's reach, Dol, Ro, Tima, and Lucas discover that their uncontrollable emotions -- which they've always thought to be their greatest weaknesses -- may actually be their greatest strengths.

Bestselling author Margaret Stohl delivers the first book in a heart-pounding series set in a haunting new world where four teens must piece together the mysteries of their pasts -- in order to save the future.

Why I Want It: I love a good dystopian, and one written by Margaret Stohl is undoubtedly going to be great. I can't wait to see how the writing form this book differs from the writing in THe Castor Chronicles that she wrote with Kami Garcia.

2. Of Triton

Release Date: May 28, 2013
Author: Anna Banks
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Length: 256

In this sequel to OF POSEIDON, Emma has just learned that her mother is a long-lost Poseidon princess, and now struggles with an identity crisis: As a Half-Breed, she’s a freak in the human world and an abomination in the Syrena realm below. Syrena law states that all Half- Breeds should be put to death.

As if that’s not bad enough, her mother’s reappearance among the Syrena turns the two kingdoms—Poseidon and Triton—against one another. Which leaves Emma with a decision to make: Should she comply with Galen’s request to keep herself safe and just hope for the best? Or should she risk it all and reveal herself—and her Gift—to save a people she’s never known?

Why I Want It: Loved the first one, Of Poseidon, and cannot wait to get my hands on this second installment. Though I was drawn to this series thinking it would have more of a mythology aspect, I an a sucker for a good mermaid story.

3. Reboot

Release Date: May 7, 2013
Author: Amy Tintera
Publisher: HarperTeen
Length: 352 pages

Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders.

Why I Want It: I LOVE this, I love the concept I love where I can see this story going. The only hesitation I have is that lately when I hear a really well conceived plot it ends up being a mediocre book at best. Here's hoping this one breaks the cycle.

4. Mystic by Alyson Noel

Release Date: May 7, 2013
Author: Alyson Noel
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Length: 320 pages

Since arriving in the dusty desert town of Enchantment, everything in Daire Santos life has changed...and not always for the better. While she's come to accept and embrace her new powers as a Soul Seeker, Daire struggles with the responsibility she holds navigating between the worlds of the living and the dead--and her mission to defeat the evil Cade Richter. But Cade's soul is inextricably entwined with that of her boyfriend Dace, putting their love to the ultimate test. How can she can't defeat Cade if it means destroying Dace too? And is their love strong enough to survive death—and what lies beyond?

MYSTIC is the third book in The Soul Seekers, a magnificent new series about a girl who can navigate between the worlds of the living and the dead, by #1 New York Times bestselling author Alyson Noël.
Why I Want It: After the end of the previous installment I've been chomping at the bit to get my hands on this book. For those who haven't read this series yet I highly suggest you do, it's not the most perfect series but the books are very enjoyable to read.
